Hey, Tony where do the local people go in Chiang Mai?

Chiang Mai is a famous place in Thailand, and it's where I'm from. Before I went to the US, I told my friends about cool spots to visit around the city. But when I learned how they usually travel, it turned out that I didn't know where to suggest my US friends to visit.

... What, Where, When, Why + Chiang Mai...?

Question for my friends?

What make them want to visit?

What inspires people to visit this small city in the north of Thailand? It's a seemingly simple question, yet the answers vary depending on each person's unique characteristics and preferences. And this question always be my first question to ask so I can understand their activities that they want to do and place to visit.

What do they want to do?

People have diverse interests and preferences. Some may be drawn to explore the rich cultural heritage, visit ancient temples, and try out Thai northern cuisine. Others might seek adventure in the surrounding natural landscapes, such as trekking in the mountains or interacting with elephants. The city also offers vibrant markets, artistic communities, and a laid-back atmosphere. But the besting is to visit me.

Where do they want to go?

Visitors often explore iconic cultural sites such as Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang. The Old City area is popular for its historic charm and the famous Sunday Walking Street market. Nature enthusiasts may head to the lush Doi Suthep-Pui National Park or the serene Huay Tung Tao Lake. The Nimmanhaemin Road area attracts those interested in trendy cafes, boutiques, and art galleries.

Eating and Commuting?

Eating and transportation are pivotal factors for visitors exploring the city, given Northern Thailand's rich culture and regulations. Occasionally, finding suitable food options can be challenging for visitors, and the act of driving in Thailand can be perceived as too hazardous.

There are times when they don't really have a fixed plan and just want to go with the flow, figuring things out day by day.

Services in Chiang Mai

If you're planning a visit to Chiang Mai, I highly recommend supporting local businesses as much as possible. However, it can be challenging if you're unfamiliar with the city's happenings. Here are popular platforms and channels that can assist you in planning your trip and navigating the city without being taken advantage of.

Dear friends, this is a stay guide.

Things to Avoid in Chiang Mai

Sad to say this but these for my friends only.

01

Wild fire and smoke.

Sadly, the nicest time in Chiang Mai, from December to May, can be a bit smoky due to wildfires. It makes the air not so nice, and it's harder to see the beautiful sights. To have a better trip, think about coming in other months when it's clearer and safer to enjoy Chiang Mai.

Check air Quality.

02

Driving and riding on the street.

Travelers should be cautious about driving or riding on the roads due to the different driving culture and a relatively high accident rate. The roads can be quite busy and traffic rules might be different from what you're used to. To ensure safety and avoid unnecessary risks, consider using alternative transportation options. This way, you can focus on enjoying your visit without the stress of navigating unfamiliar traffic conditions.

03

Hop on a red bus.

It's essential to note that red buses may not only have extra charges for non-local passengers but could also emit smoke from diesel engines, contributing to air pollution. Additionally, some may lack safety belts, posing potential safety concerns.

04

Some small things.

Consuming raw or undercooked dishes may pose health risks due to potential foodborne illnesses. It's advisable to opt for well-cooked and freshly prepared meals from reputable establishments. Additionally, being in a tropical climate, mosquitoes are prevalent and may carry diseases like dengue fever. To mitigate the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses, visitors are advised to use mosquito repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and consider staying in accommodations with proper preventive measures.
